about

The beautiful dance music of Los Angeles based producer, Nick Alvarado’s Pumpkin project has entranced fans at major music festivals from Coachella to Lightning in a Bottle with unforgettable DJ sets that have included some special reimagined versions from Pumpkin of beloved songs from across the musical spectrum. Alvarado now releases Pumpkin’s first EP, “Love Letters,” which was recorded at his studio in Los Angeles between 20112012 and is a fun and inspired creative concept album that combines radically reworked cover songs with refreshing remixes of bands like Florence + The Machine and Noah & The Whale. Pumpkin also teams with talented up and coming L.A. artists, MC EVeryman, Katie Jayne from The Mowgli’s and singersongwriter, Lila Rose, whose distinct vocals pair perfectly with the producers’ infectious grooves.
“This is the first collection of music I've released under my Pumpkin moniker and its been a long time coming,” explains Alvarado. “I am overjoyed to finally get these songs into the ears and iPods of the world and I’m really looking forward to seeing where this release will lead.”
After his busiest touring schedule to date in 2012, Pumpkin has carved out a special place in electronic music fan’s hearts with his energetic DJ sets, where his warm personality radiates through each song he plays. His exceptionally sequenced sonic excursions have become widely shared on the web as they truly take the listener on a rollercoaster ride of sunkissed grooves, haunting melodies with some wellplaced remixes of classic cuts from unexpected artists such as Blind Melon and David Bowie to Peter Gabriel and The Muppets.
On “Love Letters,” Pumpkin includes his catchy take on “Concrete Wall,” by Zee Avi, which “is one of the remixes I’m most proud of,” as Alvarado puts it and his bassheavy reconstruction of the seminal song, “Dog Days,” by Florence + The Machine has become a big fan favorite during Pumpkin’s DJ sets over the last year.

“That song is epic,” offers Alvarado. “I love the energy, the lyrics, and of course Florence's voice. I played the original song a couple times in my sets, but it just wasn't terribly dance floor appropriate. Once I got my hands on the acapella, I went to work and the remix just came together.”
But it’s perhaps Pumpkin’s remix of rising singersongwriter Lila Rose’s track “In the Dimmest,” that is the perfect demonstration of how the producer’s music can pack a dance floor but also pull at your heartstrings at the same time.
Alvarado is currently prepping Pumpkin’s “Love Letters Vol. 2,” along with his eagerly anticipated debut album that will be made up of entirely original productions. A passionate music lover of all genres, the producer is always exploring a variety of different sounds and will soon be treating fans to even more music through his sideprojects that each tap into a special part of his vast musical mind.
“I have a side project with EVeryman that was born from my ‘Good Day’ track,” reveals Alvarado. “We're called Little Giants and we make good vibe, 90's style hip hop, a la Jurassic 5, A Tribe Called Quest. I've also been DJing more under my NICK.the.NECK moniker, which is my house music outlet. Basically, songs without words as opposed to my vocalheavy Pumpkin stuff. Lots of deep house, tech house; the stuff that makes me shake my ass. You can expect more DJ mixes and even some original productions and remixes coming out of my NTN camp.”

What People Are Saying:
"On his excellent debut EP, 'Love Letters,' Pumpkin treats listeners to all the genresmashing sounds they've come to expect from his memorable live sets. There's the perfect blend of fresh vocal collaborations and inspired remixes that will have you reaching for the repeat button." Duke DuRock (The Do LaB)
"'Love Letters' targets the pleasure centers in your brain like a drone strike. With a fearless affection for the sweet, the weird, the sentimental, Pumpkin swerves left where other producers swerve right, to often thrilling results. This is dance music that manages the rare feat of simultaneously being shamelessly entertaining and genuinely soulful." – intrepidLA.com
"The magical thing about watching Pumpkin play live is the powerful combination of vulnerability, sweetness and optimism with completely danceable beats. The Love Letters EP is no different. I am here tapping my toes and shaking my booty! At the same time, I have this overwhelming urge to email family and old friends and tell them how much I love them. On that note, I should probably text Pumpkin right now. Wow!" producer, divaDanielle
“Pumpkin’s long awaited EP, ‘Love Letters,’ is finally here, just when you thought summer was over. Pumpkin’s debut release will take you back to that magical place where smiles rule and we all get silly. I've had the pleasure of seeing him play festivals and clubs. I’ve seen the effect his music has on people and the tremendous love he puts into his music and live performance. This release is a great representation of the special energy you feel at a Pumpkin show!” – producer, Lou E. Bagels of The Black 22’s
